The hardest word to say

Why is it that sorry is always that hardest word to say,
to back down and acknowledge you were wrong.
To let these walls of pride fall down
and leave you left there defenseless.

Why is it that the silence is worse than the yelling,
that the glare causes more pain than the punishment,
that you feel unable to bare the shame.

Its that sense of disappointment,
that sense of letting those you care about down.
Its that sense of guilt and heart ache as you cannot look at their face.

All you can do is say sorry,
all you can do is say nothing.
It takes all that you are to look them in the face and say

I'm sorry.
