Forgetting Them Before They're Gone

by Midnight Sun   Jan 24, 2007

Rocking back and forth
Staring straight ahead
Living life so slow
Spending most of it in bed

Existing all alone
Craving a companion
All those good friends?
...They left her abandoned

How did they forget her
Before she was gone?
They did it so easily,
And cold-heartedly moved on

Now she exists alone
And she accepted it with strength
But she's quickly giving up
And her life has run it's length

She sadly passed with no one
Because they'd moved on
But please don't forget your loved ones
Before they're even gone

So many older ones get tossed aside because they are viewed as having no life left...they are thought of as already dead. But just because they need a little more help getting along doesn't mean they're lifeless. So basically the moral is...don't forget those who took care of you for so long before they're even gone just because it requires a little more effort than before.

Omg midnight... I cried as i read the last stanza.
You really hit a nerve with this piece
And i'm so glad that my nan passed away with her loved ones around her.. Although i wasn't there at the end, she was never alone and i'm thankful for that..
    Your poem really hit home...

Great poem, great message! Nice flow and rhyme. Only one typo lol
And she excepted it with strength
It's actually ACCEPTED. But other than that....this was nice, and it's great you are reaching out into other forms of poetry!
