A marine at heaven's gateway

A marine is at heavens gateway,
and god asks him why he should come in,
he asks him if he is doctor,
the soldier shakes his head no,
but keeps on his grin,

God asks him if he is a dentist,race-car driver,or model,
The marine keeps shaking his head no with the grin on his face,
God goes through a list but does not say marine,
but he still shows respect and in his mind says a grace,

God finally says what were you then,
the soldier replies i was a marine,
God's eyes light up,
and says why didn't you say so come on in,

God gives him his halo and wings,
and a golden chair,
as all the other angels,
just stare,

The marine follows with his head up in confusion,
God says welcome back angel we have missed you to so long,
and the marine quickly says,
no sir you have it all wrong,

I'm just a marine,
not a doctor and such,
all i did was fight and shoot,
that wasn't much,

God said,
that you risked your life for people and freedom,
and that is why you have the greatest job,
and a special place in my kingdom..................
