The Frightened Lilies

by Milo   Jan 29, 2007

The house is burning
Ravaged and betrayed
Yielding red colors that is angered ahead
Across the lawn the lilies whimper with fright
Cold and confused
Not wanting to be here tonight
The oldest one grabs the young
Holding in the arms
Like a finger to the hair
it bristles the leaves
As he sings a song
But try as he might
Eyes flashing with red
Quietly they continue to scream
No matter what he said
He whispers slowly
Telling what is there to come
That if the fire continues to spread
Their life will be done
So hush now
And watch the stars
Trembling with mighty fear
Brave in their hearts
With nothing to say
They slowly looked above
And started to pray
The warmth continues from the stem to the petals
He tells a story
Of a beautiful forest
Yet he continues to seethe
That they will not last long
Throughout the night
Waiting for the moment that swallows their life
So as the young ones are safe in his hands
Rocked quietly to sleep
As the fire approaches
He closes his eyes
Knowing that here the young ones are
In his grasp for the last time

Hearbreaking but beautiful. Such emotion and clear visuals. A truly wonderful piece. I agree with Al you have an extraorinary talent for showing detailed imagery and raising emotion. You should seriously consider a writing career
