Praying For Another Day

by Cindy   Feb 4, 2007

Times are always so hard
Days stretch way to long
This illness consumes me
My mind is not this strong

Sickness almost drives me insane
Days and nights filled with pain
Pleasures few and far between
Not much left for me to gain

Then I see my family
With smiles on their faces
Their eyes shining with love
I couldn't be in a better place

Watching my grandchildren grow
My son has shared his life
Seeing their laughter and love
My life I will not sacrifice

I will hold on to this pain of mine
Grabbing on to each new day
Share my love with them all
To see another day, I will pray

    Hello Cindy,

I hope this finds you well...

    Times are always so hard
    Days stretch way to long
    This illness consumes me
My mind is not this strong

I can only imagine what it is like to have a long term illness. The pain, the constant hospital procedures and the knowledge of a lifetime of this. I wonder if anyone would think that they would be strong enough - somehow, I doubt it!

    Sickness almost drives me insane
Days and nights filled with pain
    Pleasures few and far between
Not much left for me to gain

Oh Cindy, this really offers a flavour of the torture... 24 hours a day, with little relief and littler to enjoy. It really is enough to make one wonder 'what is the point?'

    Then I see my family
    With smiles on their faces
    Their eyes shining with love
    I couldn't be in a better place

This is the reason, though... Family, sharing their joy and happiness. If they are smiling that is enough to go on. After all, they find happiness in knowing you are there. There to wipe their tears and hear their achievements. A reason to live.

    Watching my grandchildren grow
My son has shared his life
    Seeing their laughter and love
My life I will not sacrifice

Yes, all these reasons for your life, no matter how awful to go on. Seeing your grandchildren and hearing their laughter goes along way to make up for the hardship you face each and every day. Your life is not a sprint, but a marathon to end all marathons. Keep on running Cindy and enjoying the view.

I will hold on to this pain of mine
Grabbing on to each new day
Share my love with them all
To see another day, I will pray

This is your mantra, the belief that instils the strength that you did not know you processed. You do and because of this you will and do lead as full a life as anyone could expect and more, much more I am sure.

Cindy, you are a trouper with the bravery to face perhaps the biggest enemy: Yourself. You have won that battle, now its just about finding the joy in others and drawing on that to fuel your inner strength and belief.

Well done Cindy, you are an inspiration.

    Love, Michael ((hugs)) xx

This was so beautiful and so sad at the same time.
The last line brought tears to my eyes.
    Excellent work, as always.

This poem really speaks out to me, the strength you have to go on, knowing such a loss, but yet to continue for the ones you dearly love is such an inspiration.
