Flower Picking

by Lyndsay Kalyta   Feb 5, 2007

Soft rain falls on
My favourite garden of colours
Producing blooms so strong
Of many different flowers

In my garden there is variety
But only one has caught my eye
I want to bring it home with me
And take care of it so it won't die

I bend down in appreciation
Knowing this flower deserves a home
It really is my inspiration
I wonder how it grew alone

It is not a pretty carnation
But it's beautiful to me
I will give it all my admiration
It's the only flower I see

It's ragged, but that's what I love
Imperfections are signs of strength
All the others, it reaches above
Edging out in length

It carries with it a few thorns
But they are easily set aside
When I hold it, by the way it forms
I can tell if loves that I'm alive

Its smell is lovelier than everything
I have ever smelt before
I wouldn't trade it for anything
Nothing can compare to it anymore

As much as I'd love to open my eyes
And have it the first thing I see each day
For now, I have to say goodbye
Because here in the earth it must stay

Right now his home is in the ground
And in the wind, where it can sway
But I will always keep coming around
Because I wish to plant it in my heart someday
