Getting Even

by Michael D Nalley   Feb 5, 2007

If I treated you just like a great queen
Would it make you arrogant and mean?
Or would you love me for being your slave,
As long as I could submissively behave?

You know my soul, has gone to great length
To love my ruler with mind, heart, and strength
But a half cannot make a complete whole
In a union with only one willing soul

Getting even would just make it worse
The bishop can never bless a curse
It would be nearly an unforgivable shame
To mistake a king for a pawn in this game

The castles are not safe, or protected
When common sense is often rejected
And the knights are somehow neglected
By the game of love that is reflected

Rulers and lovers had better check their mate
Bringing order to the kingdom before it's too late
Sanctuary for saints or sinners, losers or winners
Is seldom cherished and respected by beginners

We cannot hide the fact under any temple or steeple
That hurt people what to get even, and hurt people
Does our passion come from beneath, or from above?
Is it better to conquer, or surrender to divine love?
