My Mask

My Mask

I wear my delicately assembled mask
It is a creation of perfection
To cover scars from my past
And uncertainties of my future

To the outward eye a masterpiece
Showing beauty in abundance
With Cupie like features
A visage of confidence
Painting a flawless picture
Of vitality and benevolence

I wear it like armor
To protect me from exposing
The injuries that lie within me
And the bits of me that are decomposing
I cannot let you in that close
To do so would be imposing

I wear it like a cloak
To shield me from judgment
Knowing eyes that would haunt me
Prefering to suffer in confinement
Keeping the hurt close within
Protected by my shroud of cement

Parts of my mask are truly me
Simply magnified a thousand degrees
Do not dig deeper; focus on that image
You will feel no disappointment; I guarantee
It serves its purpose, to hide the parts
I dont want you to see.
