Audition

by Peter Williams   Feb 6, 2007

There's only two more minutes 'til showtime
And my heart finds its place inside my throat.
Do I break a leg even if it's broke?
I was nervous but tried to be sublime.
At the top of my game, at lovely prime,
I started to forget my lines and choke.
I desperately tried to stay afloat,
But then I had fallen into the grime.

What had happened? What did I do so wrong?
I had a perfect shot and I blew it,
This was a lost cause but still there was chance.
The applause died out and the love was gone,
And here is where I would like to admit,
That I wasn't looking for true romance.
