Sleep

by Ressa   Apr 4, 2004

It sits there
Silently taunting me
Daring me
Without a word
End your tears
Be crushed by pain no longer
Not good enough
You know this
So why bother
Question after question
Seeming to laugh at my hurt
So tired
Why depend on love
It will only let you down
Dancing within my grasp
Moving away before you catch it
False promises
Scattered dreams
The thoughts make perfect sense
Reach out and silently count
2, 3, 4 not enough for me
6, 7, 8 would only dull
Forget counting
Open wide and swallow
Reach for the glass
Wash it down
Lay back on my pillow
Stare up at the ceiling
Staring at nothing really
Simply waiting
Slowly eyelids droop
Sweet release soon will come
My limbs grow heavy
I can't feel my fingers am numb now
with only my thoughts left to wander
Soon even my thoughts seem to scatter
Sleep now
Do not waken
Silently send a loving goodbye
Though it will never be heard
My breathing slows
Stops
In sleep i do not struggle for breath
Simply slip away
Into a dream
A place where nothing matters
A place where I hurt no longer
