Mans Best Friend

by michelle   Feb 8, 2007

Oh, how their happy tails wag
Their friendly barks
Echoing

What a triumph
As you get picked
Taken home by your 'owner'
With a shiny new collar

All the love, the attention
The treats for the tricks
Come on boy, roll over
Play Dead.

A pat on head
A game of fetch
Good boy
You'll always be my best friend

The Lies of the human race
They never fail to deceive
Well, a little lie
Never hurt anyone

A year passes
Your tail, still wags
But their laughter, smiles
Have faltered

Not now boy, I'm busy
I don't have time to play
Come on, get out the way

Stupid Dog...

Time for walkies
The chain slips round your neck
Tail wagging, happily
Through your loyalty, you become
naive

This path, it seems familiar
This scent, you recognize
You realize, too late, you've made a mistake
You were fooled by their smiling lies

Back to the pound.
Back, behind the bars.
I sit, and i watch,
Their foolish wagging tails

I have learned the truth
Of the bitter human race
So i lay, quiet in the corner
I will not be played a fool

My collar,once shining, now dull
A tattered heap on the cold floor
I chewed it up and i spat it out
Just like they done to me

I watch,A bouncy little Labrador
Come springing from his cage
Taken home, to be loved forever

What A Lie.

That is so sad but unfortunately so true. I know this happens alot more than we care to realise. Wonderfully written full of emotion, 5/5. Em
