Autumn Sonnet

by LadyPearl   Feb 9, 2007

Colors fall as the wind paints the red sky
Lush with silence, hidden eternity
As the last marigolds shrivel and die
Laugter bellows within a soul; empty
A mother hushes a wailing child
"Your father needs no more unanswered tears"
The day continues; endlessly mild
but her weak heart still bled with growing fears
Her bleak eyes fell and fell like autumn leaves
while the air, drank her sorrow softly
playing memories with a breeze of dreams
As the last light slips behind clouds slowly
The shadows flee as the ground tears apart
And the song of death rings high in her heart

Sad but beautifully penned. I like the metaphors. Very good job!
