Life Goes By (collab)

by Cindy   Feb 13, 2007

Sitting in my chair it is easy to watch life go by
Changes have been plenty and they come so fast
Technology is supposed to change and drive us
Yet we have somehow lost our societal way
People have forgotten honor and truth in America today

Wondering when things changed like this
Time moved so fast it slipped right by
Cell phones, MP3's, DSL and DVD's
Have we forgotten all the wonderful things?
Respecting each other, the good feelings it brings

School, sports, music and more piled on the plate
Children are not allowed to be kids any more
They carry day planners and schedule play time
What happened to riding bikes, cops n robbers, and more?
Children have become us, with 20 antacids in the store

Forgetting the importance of family time and lessons learned
Parents working hard and way too long, away from home
Children do not know how to use their minds to entertain
Using games, videos, and computers for day care
In days gone by fathers and mothers were always there

As I watch the world go by my heart begins to break
I fear that things will only get worse generations on
As we pile more upon our plate, facing media’s demands
As they tell us how to live and look with each new ad
I never once thought that my world would become so bad

Hoping we can change things before it's too late
We need to Take the time for our families once more
Turning off the televisions, video games, cell phones
Let's try to bring back more of the forgotten days
Teaching our children how to love, laugh, and play

I liked this, it reminds me of a problem I've always wanted to write about but could never put the words together. I'll probably save this page and be inspired later, thanks.
