Carpe Diem

I walked through the forest
Full of green wonders
And came upon a fox
Strange it was but it still trotted up to me
A sly smile and a wink with a whispered word:
-Live
And it disappeared as if wasn't ever there
I pondered what this message could mean
For two days and two nights I sat at home
Thinking of that strange day
Until I decided to take the words to heart
And go out to live as I have never had before

Walking along a cliff's edge
Staring straight down into the canyon
When a slight flutter touched my cheek
And there upon my shoulder
Sat a pretty yellow butterfly
It fluttered its wings twice and then a whispered word:
-Love
Again I thought for two days and nights
And decided to love all those who wanted love

Holding a child's hand, walking through the streets
When a whoosh of air and a cry of "whooooo"
Floated over my head
Looking up a golden owl sat, perched on a tree
Blinking lazily, a whispered word:
-Learn
This time I needed no time to ponder
I wondered for years across the world
Learning everything I could
And never once stopped living or loving

No more was I young but a judicious person
I lived, I loved, I learned
I fulfilled my life to the fullest
And then some
I took another walk through the forest
Where my journey first began
And there before me a great black wolf stood
Sleek and elegant, proud and strong
He smiled with charm and a whispered word:
-Die
I know soon I would die
And I have no fear
With this strong creature beside me
I would certainly be protected
Down on my knees I wrapped my arms around his neck
And I whispered a few words:
-I have no regrets
