Keep Your Eyes Closed

by Taylor Porton   Feb 15, 2007

A kiss
is but an innocent halt
to the rushing flow of darkest feelings

But if a kiss itself
is motivated by deceit
then the brief interruption
would in fact
mislead

Your eyes closed
you see with your hands
I as well hold this capability
and therefore
do not need to open my eyes

Your lashes flutter excitedly
hugging close to your soft skin
shielding your unaffected eyes

I smile at the thought of this
while my lashes too dance
in the unaffected fluttering of ignorance

I subsist on your exhalations
you breathe out steadily and slow
slowly you allow me to gain strength
I try to quickly fill my lungs with your air
greedily

You teach me that this is not okay.
You hold your breath.
I gasp.

Your words surround me
like music notes circling clouds
I spin dizzily backward
and fall
crash.

I frown, upsetedly
but soon accept it as a melted smile
at the thought of you
lifting me up
dusting me off
letting me breathe

The silver lining to my clouds.

A quick sunbeam
breaks through my fogged dizzy haze
and reveals

I watch speechlessly
as you hold her close
and her lashes dance
in the unaffected fluttering of ignorance

Your lashes too dance
faster
faster
until they snap open
suddenly

You see.
You smile,
and my world is lost.
