The Holy Joke

by Steve B   Feb 15, 2007

Today I told a holy joke,
As holy as could be,
And much to my delight, you spoke,
And told it back to me.

We did not laugh, we knew not then,
The angels would not say,
How comic were the things said when
We made our vows that day.

The joke, it wore a suit of black,
The punch line gowned in white,
A swearing that we'd keep on track,
Not do the things we might -

Oh lucky man am I, my dear,
A lucky man, 'tis true!
My wits were far too dull, I fear,
But 'twas not so for you.

The humour I could never see
Oh you, you understood,
And though it was quite hard for me
You told me best you could:

When once I was in love with you
You must have thought me daft
For when to my vows, I was true,
You looked at me, and laughed.
