Tick-Tock Clock

by Steve B   Feb 15, 2007

A man who wears a watch most surely prays
Devoutly to the gods the gods would mock,
For in the former places greater stock
Than in deities with their pious ways
His pantheon's of minutes, hours, and days.
The miracle device that is his clock
Gives his life meaning with its tick and tock,
And soon the tick-tock's all he'll hear and praise.

Ah, you who only worship tick-tock things
Your safety is your sickness - don't you see?
Order's your prison, not what sets you free,
Since men with steady feet cannot grow wings.
Ignoring the tick-tock clock, that's the trick
To hearing a happy world's tock-tick
