Tribute to Poe: The Eight Bells

by МÅťťђĕш Яĕĩŋĕßĕřg   Apr 5, 2004

The morning bell chimes to wake from slumber
Endless numbers of those asleep
“Ding Dong, Ding Dong, Wake Up All!”
Rise from your slumber, daylight breaks.

The work bell rings loud and shrill
Calling laborers work and toil
Clanging hammers and jangling bell
Call those to work and make all well.

The holiday bell resounds in glory and glee
Bringing a pause to the toiling trade
Respite and relief come from holiday bells
Signaling break from work and strain.

The school bell relinquishes reign to summer
Happy children play care free
Swimming and running under the sun,
Golden rays shine on endless fun.

The wedding bell rings in glorious tone
Now together are lovers once alone
Under the gong of the glorious bell
Two are one, under the bells engaging song.

The bell rings and sings in unending jingle,
The tinkle and the chime of sleigh bells ring,
For happy and singing in gleeful ringing
Are the winter bells, the sleigh singing jingle.

The alarm bell clamors shrill notes of panic
The dreadful racket makes hearts jump
Sirens blare, clamoring bells ring rapidly
The nightmare noise of disaster and din.

The bell tolls now for those who have gone,
It rolls thus the mournful graveyard song,
The ghosts of the past have left words on stone,
“Love your years on earth, death comes soon.”
