Abandoned

by UM   Apr 5, 2004

Sitting down,
She is troubled and torn.
The figurehead is gone,
Lost in the storm.
But not by some twist of ill fate,
By its own twisted desires.
It loosened its hold
and then it retired.
When times got rough,
You turned and ran.
You didn't rise to the challenge,
Your only half a man.
She echoes sorrow, and love, and hate.
The pain is unending.
It tears at her soul,
But she stays firmly standing.
I see it each day,
and it wrenches my heart.
How could this happen?
How could a father and daughter grow so far apart?
This is unfathomable,
How could this be?
I don't understand,
It makes no sence to me.
I don’t know how
This could come to pass,
And I don’t think I ever will.
It's sad it had to happen to such a fine lass.
Because of this painful ordeal,
There's one thing myself I forbid.
I will never, ever
Abandon my kid.
