Her Reflection

by Rebecca   Feb 17, 2007

Looking through the sparkling water,
She sees the reflection of a pondering face.
A face afraid of looking into the future,
and yearning to dwell in the past.

Time, it seems, is working against her dreams,
For in her mind, she sees change as an inevitable force.
Her mindless reflection longs to re-live the past, but why?
How much satisfaction can she receive by going back?

The luminous sunset fades into the black austere clouds of a storm,
She can feel the change; a vile essence all around her.
Everything around her is frozen over,
in the ashes of her lost tears, she closes her eyes.

Looking down at the black water,
The bottom is engulfed by the darkness.
She sinks her feet in the cold water,
a blanket of dull, grey ashes cover the surface.

As she is treading waist deep in disappointment,
She cannot help but notice a single rose pedal.
The vivid red color cascading from the sky,
delicately lands in front of her.

Yet another unexpected change,
She feels revived by this, letting her mind and soul drift away.
Completely submerged in a cold, dark abyss,
Her last breaths are subdued as ripples in the water,
distorting the vivid reflection of the innocent rose pedal.
