Goodbye (war)

by edy   Feb 18, 2007

Suffer I must
It's the price I must pay
A deployed soldier in the middle east
Dear Lord, I pray

I pray that you bring me tomorrow
I pray that you protect my friends
Or rather Ill correct that
They are brothers of war in the end

I pray the if today is my time to go
You accept me with open arms
However please take care of my wife
She is all I've got

I pray that you open her eyes
Let her realize my love
Let her take in the desire
Perhaps from up above

I pray that you take care of my brothers
Yes, my brothers of war
They have fought just as hard as me
Yet, to me you have opened the door

I can only watch from up above
For my time has come
You have taken me in
I now have a new home

I will stand by my brother's as they continue to fight
I watch as the mourn my loss
Inside I can see their fright

Fear is building up
It's happened to one of us
I see first hand my life
I see first hand what it dealt

I wish I could tell them for the last time
How much the mean
How much I cared
And how I'm glad it was me
Not one of them

I watch the cars pull up to my house
My wifes knees just give out
She See's two men in uniform
It's only for one reason
There's no doubt

They slowly walk towards the door
My wife runs to the room
She grabs my picture
Holds it to her heart
"Dear lord this cant be true"

I wish I could hold her
Tell her it will be OK
I'm in a better place
And I told you "I love you yesterday"

They men gently knock
Wait patiently
This job they never wanted
But no life is taken for free

They continue to knock
No answer of the door
They see my wife through the window
Ma'am can we speak it's the war

The tears are flowing
They don't know what to say
Ma'am I'm sorry for your loss
He passed yesterday

They hand her a letter
Give her a supporting hand
She rejects any gratitude
Why him? Why my man?

She continues to cry
The Soldiers at the door
Ma'am He served his country
He fought hard throughout the war

She closes the door
Says goodbye
Please come some other time
Now I'll just cry

Three day's pass, Then came day four
No more I love you, nor phone calls
She couldn't take it anymore

She drove to the church
Said her last goodbye's
Prayed dear lord I'm sorry
But without him I must die

She got back into the car
Drove off a bridge
Inside her hands
Was a picture of him

True Love Indeed
But no harm intended
He was a proud man serving his country
His life the war ended

Moral of the story
Don't make that mistake
If your loved ones go
You have a guardian angel
For Christ's Sake
