Road of Fury

by Bill Turner   Feb 20, 2007

I walk alone on this road of bones
Screams of anguish to either side
Faceless dead staring back at me
Demon darkness creeping over the road
Back bent from carrying this heavy load

Walking this path of lost souls
Knowing not what will this way come
Feet forever mired in the tears of the damned
Sloshing onward toward the fiery abyss
Awaiting the sting of the devils kiss

Screams and hisses emanate from the pit
Where wayward politicians and preachers go
Jackals all of them, born of the fires in hell
Evil eventually returns to find its very own
Bones burnt and crushed as they moan

The path to enlightenment is often paved with horror
Feeling the sting of deeds past drives me ever on
Hyenas laugh as the flesh is seared from the bone
For only another carnivore can understand my fate
Their laughter a condition brought on by unnatural hate

Standing on the precipice of my darkened life
Peering into the faces consumed by flame
Slimy tentacles wrapping around my legs, pulling
Feeling an icy hand in the middle of my back, a shove
Falling ever downward, knowing it came from above

Consumed in hatreds flame, a king without a throne
Marching upon the road of fury, a fiery mane
Unable to slay the beasts of damnation and fate
I am but a lost soldier, battling now for my soul
Seeking salvation, enlightenment my one true goal
