Beautiful Water

by Alissa   Feb 21, 2007

She held the paper tightly in her hands,
scrunching it up with her sweaty palms.
Crying uncontrollable tears,
flowing like the water rapids in the sea.

She reminisced in the memories she loved,
but cringed at the memories she longed to erase.
She held the old blown kiss from near her heart,
so long ago was it sent to her.

She read the letter over quickly,
she read it again and again,
memorizing the lines.
Word for word, letter by letter.

She looked at her board,
battered up and dented but beautiful.
She knew that if she swam today it would be her last,
but still she couldn't stop the temptation.

She took the crumpled letter and smoothed it out,
she taped it on her roommate's surfboard and headed out.
Today would be her first time surfing on her last day.

When she reached the ocean shore the waves were crashing,
no, not normal breaking water.
Terrifying, deadly white rapids rolled over.
But the thought that the best way to die was by doing it for something you loved.

She got in the water, paddled one stroke at a time,
one swift movement to the ready mark.
She waited patiently for her wave, recognizing which one was for her.

She waited, then saw it.
She felt the wave move up and she lept.
Oh the feeling she thought,
beautiful, so delightful.

But as known would come she came tumbling down,
she didn't even struggle,
she let herself go.
Letting the beautiful water take her life.

Just like that she died,
she died a beautiful death.
But the letter was still hung there to be found.
A letter saying:

Today will be the day that in a moment my love will swept me away, water will become my world. But please tell my darling that I did hear him, I heard him say he loved me. Just as I was going down, I heard him.
