Wishing I'd hear our love song

by Heidi   Feb 23, 2007

I was standing in the dark
Waiting for your headlights
Searching through the trees
Through the dark and lonely night.
Thinking you'd be there any minute
You were running a couple minutes late
You would have never stood me up
On our first, serious date.
I didn't hear your engine
Your headlights didn't show
I didn't hear screeching tires
And the horn, you didn't blow.
I sank to the floor
As the hours passed on
Mad but still wishing
That I'd hear our love song.
Thinking you'd drive in
And run into my arms
Saying you're sorry for being late,
You didn't hear your alarm.
But, I didn't hear your engine
Your headlight's didn't show
I didn't hear screeching tires
And the horn, you didn't blow.
Finally I gave up
Knowing you weren't coming around
I crawled into bed
And the phone suddenly made a sound.
Footsteps up the stairs
My mom quietly opened my door
"Sweetheart, The phone's for you,"
As she crossed the floor.
"hello," i said as i skipped a breath
"Hi, it's Jerry's mother, Mrs. Dash."
I listened to her whimper as she said
"He's been in a car crash."
But, I didn't hear your engine
Your headlight's didn't show
I didn't hear screeching tires
And the horn, you didn't blow.
