The Ink On My Skin

by Ashleigh Skye   Feb 25, 2007

*!~I wrote this for a contest but yet again I loved they way it turned out so I decided to share it with everyone~!*

Its been years since I was back there,
But the darkness is still very raw,
They burned away a part of my soul,
With everything I witnessed and saw.

They branded me like an animal,
Injecting their hate into my skin,
Stripping away my name and life,
Leaving only my thoughts within.

The loss of all human identity,
The smell of despair and death all around,
The torturous screams and horrendous cries,
rise straight up through the ground.

The human race was in shambles,
Friends and family all closing their eyes,
Leaving the needy in times of despair,
Humanity on the verge of demise.

Now the fighting is long since finished,
But the ink in my skin will forever stay,
A visual reminder of the way things were,
When humanity and compassion went astray.
