The Children of Tomorrow

by Becky   Mar 2, 2007

The skin is broken
as the ghosts of yesterday converge on you

they'll peel off their faces
revealing raw emotion

standing in a puddle
watch the sky roll

writhing in turmoil
minds collapse

the future is ours
embrace what we've become

falling to unspoken words
you'll crumble

stealing the words from a nest
will give new flight

bones tarnished brown
from years of the forgotten

yearning for the helpless
give up on all dreams

tomorrow is coming
fresh with caving hearts

these children we give faith to
these miscreants we give birth to

thou shall not remember
those cherished golden years

climbing so high
as the lightening strikes

coying nothingness
they all envy you

your words are meaningless
as they are shed upon the dammed

chaos turns to despair
as they rip your lungs free

blood pools around
burned sacrifices

so close to escaping your shadow
that crackle lashes the air

confused as your heart is
they'll tangle it up more

your breath relinquishing
its hold on life

falling to the ground at last
they'll tear you to pieces

your brothers and sisters
despising your birth

never will you stand tall
as your dying, inside out

watching from below
as the children of tomorrow
engulf our yesterdays regrets.

This poem was so unique. Its style was different than most of the others written for the same genre. I like that because it sets it apart. Great job.

Whoa. I can see this being read with drums on the side. You know how they do it in movies? I mean like that. This is so cool. This is the first poem I've read of yours I really love it. I'm going to add you on my favorites. Check out some of my poems, kay?
