Lifeless

by Annabel   Mar 3, 2007

The person’s disappearing.
All that remains is a cold, empty shell.
She falls, she breaks
And slowly shrivels away,
Dieing further and further with each day that comes.

She takes so many tablets every day of her life.
Twice now she has taken more than she ought.
And twice now she has been left here
In this cruel world
Where the need to leave cannot be accepted.

She lies alone at night
And cries out in pain.
Her body will never be what it once was.
She remembers the time when, as a child,
She skipped to school laughing with her friends.

Skipping, laughing,
There are unknown.
A strange mystery that belongs to the young.
She prays each night,
She will be taken to Jack
‘Fore she believes her husband will be waiting.

He remembers the dancing,
The important dinners
The mayor-making ceremonies.
He left the world
Life unfinished
Goals incomplete.

And she lies there
And wills her own death to come soon
She has outlived life
The living offer her no more.
