When Love Is Gone

I see the darkness creeping in my mind to take control
The shattering of pieces of a heart broke long ago
When I see you with another as you hold them in your grasp
Reminding me of all the things that came and went so fast.

Together is what you told me, our love would stand the pain
Of words left there between us, unspoken, once again.
But you left without a word to me, just packed your things away
And gave me empty promises that you'd return to me one day.

But months have gone between us and the thought has crossed my mind
That your leaving was the ending and you'd not return this time.
Was it only just a burden that to me you held so dear
And made the break upon the heart that washed away the tears.

Consuming though you seem to be without the words goodbye
You left me with the memories, the heartache, and the lies.
Now I face the truth like I have known it all along
There is no turning back for us when love is finally gone.
