Separation

by Matt   Mar 5, 2007

He walks out from the path he's clung so tightly to
Out from the trees and darkness that covers him
The sun beats gently against his skin
And makes his eyes tear from the light
He's been on that path for far too long
Trying to find his way from what he thought were mistakes
But never realizing, they were the path
Deprived of senses while trudging along
He finds a new existence out in the open
With arms raised, standing cruciform
He is lifted slightly off the ground
So lightly he floats that his toes still drag in the dirt
His head snaps back, up toward the sky
Eyes roll white and mouth screams out
Finding his new plane changed entirely
From green field to barren wasteland
His hands open toward each other, wrists bent
The pain he feels is incredible, the need insatiable
He's been starving for this, digging down deep
The separation of matter and energy is in plain sight
With electric currents in the gaps where the once fused
Crackling, snapping, and flashing brilliantly
His hair goes white, his body separates from soul
The entire area flashes purely white, then falls to blackness
His physical body crashes to the ground
He holds himself on his knees, arms still open
Eyes have returned to their brilliant green
And hair back to the darkened brown
He looks up at the force that just tore itself out
A silhouette of what he thought he was
And what he knew he carried every day
Before a word can escape his lungs, it's gone
His lips quiver, and his arms drop to his sides
It's lost and gone forever
And he falls, face to the dirt
The lifeless eyes stay open, to watch the world fade
Until he is back on that ever-safe path that he calls life.
