Parents

by Heather Calkins   Mar 5, 2007

They get on your nerves
They make you do chores
They make sure you do your homework
They say they love you, of course

No drugs
Get good grades
No beer
Hair in braids

Dress nicely
Use good manners
You might hurt yourself
Don't play with hammers

No boys until you're eighteen
No sex until you're married
When you're in public
Keep those feelings buried

Too many rules
You just can't stand it
You think they hate you
Because of all of this shit

They're there for support
They really do love you
Next time you go for a beer
Remember that they do

Don't beat yourself up
Because you made a mistake
Go and talk to them
Instead of getting baked

Yes, parents are a pain
And yes they won't leave you be
But you know what?
They're the best thing that's ever happened to me.
