Forests of Neverent

by Zyrin   Mar 6, 2007

The tall trees on ever side
Sunlight filtering through,
Bright, warming and calm
Filling the world with a gilded green glow.

The dark clouds roll in,
Plunging the world into the depths of shadow,
A soft rumble, echoing through the limbs,
A trumpeting herald to the coming rain.

A single drop, then two, then twenty
Falling in sequence, splashing in the trees
And down to the waiting ground
'The soothing solitude of a dark rain covers me' a whispered voice declares

A flash, illuminates the world
Bringing the demons of light
To the deepened forest
Flashing, reflecting on a silver figure

The trees sway and tremble
With the force of a sound
A gleaming light
Piercing from between the leaves

A solitary glow from a lonely source
It winks once, and is joined by more
Seven total, glowing in the damp dark
Winking slowly, with little thought.

Eight large shapes appear
Tipping over the trees
Catching the rain, rolling the drops down
Onto a silver back

A flash of light, a deep roll
Accompanied by a new sound
High, yet low, loud, yet soft
Echoing like a ghost among the trees

The silver shape, upon rolling shoulders
Moves forward slowly
The path illuminated by the seven twinkling lights
Slowly, slowly, ever forward

A break in the trees
Through which the Silver moves
And into a clearing
Bathed in the curtain of rain

Across the dusty ground it continues
To stand in the center
Eight shapes go up and out
Stopping the rain from the ground

The echoing cry, heard once more
From its opened mouth
The Silver stands full,
Seven lights gleaming

A powerful stroke
The Silver rises
Amid a swirling cloud of dust
Into the storming sky

Accompanying its rise
The light flashes again
To lighten the way
Into the heavens

On wings of silver, the creature flies
Through the curtains of rain
Through the dark
With the seven piercing lights to guide its way

Over the forest it flies
Caring not about wind or rain
Through the darkened, soothing sky
With seven bright eyes to see with

Through the dark
Over hills and far away
The Dragon flies
Prowling the forest
To protect the Tower in its heart
From chaos and greed.
