My Not-So-Average Joe

by e l flo   Mar 7, 2007

I would wear my heart in my sleeve,
But I won't anymore.
Why did I have to believe you?
I want it like before.

Why did you have to like me too?
Why did I have to fall in love?
Because you are a magic trick,
Appearing as a dove.

But then you disappear again.
Why did you have to go?
Just when I had fallen for you?
You're no average Joe.

Sometimes I wish I was enough,
But clearly I am not.
You have made that crystal clear.
And now who've you got?

You are still alone and afraid.
Believe me, I can tell.
You have searched again and again,
But I know you too well.

Don't worry, I'll take care of you,
You know I always will.
I have told you that I love you,
And you question it still.

You have said you can't fall in love,
That that is just not you.
You like a new girl every week,
And sometimes it is two.

Why can't you just open your eyes?
Look at us. It is real.
Forget your mind, just trust your heart.
Your heart known how you feel.

And you know that I do as well.
It's just something I know,
It is a skill that I possess.
You're no average Joe.

In every other way you are:
You have the exact same style,
And you are scared of commitment.
But then you go and smile.

When I look at you smiling,
I know there is something.
I can see it in those green eyes.
You'll see. You'll be my king.
