Tired and Worn

by Michael D Nalley   Mar 9, 2007

Sometimes I feel tired and worn
When my life seems so forlorn
I try so hard, seemingly in vain
With all of my strength to sustain

Work needs to be done everywhere
Daily chores, more than I can bear
To claim my inheritance in meekness
I know pride is an unholy weakness

Two steps forward my ego is swollen
Three steps back it has been stolen
Wondering will my mind ever learn
What my soul suffers when I turn

Turning from the light to rest my eyes
Only to wake to the dawn, past the lies
Forgiving the debts as my debts are paid
Thinking some day I will have it made

Lord, have mercy on my poor attitude
I will give and receive with gratitude
When my poor body becomes torn and worn
Renew my spirit, that I may be reborn
