A Silly Poem about Digital Cameras

by david kessel   Apr 8, 2004

On my recent trip
A 35 millimiter camera I carried.
I had it fastened to my hip,
But all around me- all these people, some married,
Some single but with cameras that were digital...
I felt ashamed
As if with digital cameras these people their richess to the world proclaimed.
And I was so poor and I felt so backward,
A cute 35 millimiter made me feel awkward-
I skimped and saved for years to go on this trip,
But with a digital camera I did not myself equip.
An indigent old man I must have appeared to them.
I guess, that\'s what I am.

When I finally got home from that trip,
I noticed that on my shoulder there was a chip.
And to the nearest store a ran.
I dug into my savings though it was not my plan...
And a digital camera I acquired-
To be like everybody else I ardently desired.

And now, I feel complete
For with a digital camera I walk around all day.
My pride is back, I carry it down the street
And I take pictures of trees or clouds and of the food I eat.
I click away...

It is amazing how a thing like this
Can make me feel so good,
But then I think, it should.
I feel amiss
if I do not keep up with trends
And use a 35-millimiter lens.

The days of 35 mm cameras are numbered.
So, if you have slumbered
While the digital cameras developed,
It\'s time that to a nearest store you\'d galloped
And bought yourself a digital companion,
And take some pictures of people, trees and then, Grand Canyon.

You won\'t regret-
With a digital camera you\'ll be all set!
