Only Partly Beautiful

by IdTakeABulletForYou   Mar 11, 2007

Eyes looking vividly
At beauty, just wishing
She held the beauty that
All her life she had lusted
For.
The judging eyes walked down
The runway, their glares
Held pity for ugliness,
Whereas beauty put them
Above her.

*She regretted her birth. The point
Where ugliness entered the world.
She felt her exit would be happy,
For ugliness would then leave beauty alone.
No more wishing.
No more praying.
Just... non-existence.
No pictures, no videos.
No paintings or sketches.
She couldn't wait to fade away
With relentless time.
Death-- a place where eyes would
No longer stare at her so broken
A place where forgiveness was unnecessary
...And also impossible.*

And the judges paced
Walking up and down the runway.
Their eyes still stared coldly down
The row of girls.
A voice over a loud speaker
Announced the winner of the beauty contest.
It wasn't her.

From that moment on,
She was only partly beautiful.

A very interesting way to look at a beauty contest. No matter how beautiful those girls are, if they don't win, they always seem to think its something wrong with the way they look :( its quite sad

Yes, this piece is beautiful if not tragic in its honesty and rawness. Compelling, even. It makes me want to branch out from my usual poems of woe and misery and touch upon a topic I've never delved into before!

Thanks for reawakening me to this poem!
