Risk

Sweat drizzles down my neck,
Blood oozes from my shoulder,
My temples throb;
Every bit of me aches.

I must stand up again,
She's counting on me,
They all are;
Her family.

I have gotten them this far,
I can't back down,
I am to persevere,
I swore I'd save her life.

Miles on end,
Rocks and roots,
Wriggle their way
In front of us.

Roots reach out,
Lash at our ankles,
CRASH- fallen,
I'm taken to the ground.

Jagged rocks,
I lay upon;
I must find strength,
To stand once more.

My dear, dear friend,
Reaches out,
Now it is her turn
To help.

I bear the pain,
Shooting through nerves,
Keeping me aware,
There is a life at stake.

BANG- guns,
They call for her once more,
So intimidating,
They growl.

I tiredly scurry,
Through the dark,
Leading the path,
To Freedom.

To her parents,
To my parents,
To her,
I promised safety.

She has always been,
My loyal friend,
My shoulder to lean on;
Now it is my turn.

Through the alley,
Through the gate,
Through the homes,
Of a Resistance friend.

Her destiny lays there,
Lays here,
On my pain stricken soul;
I must go on.

They will free her,
In a way I cannot,
They will guide her,
Whereas I am lost.

    For a Holocaust poem, this wasn't very well written at all. This had no emotion in it for such a horrible fate some endurded.
    For a regular poem, it was rather interesting.
    But, again, for a Holocaust poem I didn't feel what I should have felt... Sorry.
