The Way I Am

The face in the mirror hoping to be
Everything you want, and everything you need
Is getting just a little tired of trying anymore.
It's like knocking on some abandoned door.

I'm sitting on the steps, head held in my hands
Praying for a miracle, or maybe just a chance.
I close my eyes shut tight and hope you'll be there
But it's empty space. You're not anywhere.

Wishing on a star and blowing on a flower
Only brings me lost causes and lonely hours.
I have this gut feeling telling you wouldn't change a thing.
It's my fault for hoping and ever believing.

I'm just a dreamer living in a world of reality.
It looks good in my head but you're not with me.
It's impossible to not see how bad I need you.
But it will never happen. We all know that's true.

Still here I am, with open hands, if you ever want to try.
You can catch these falling tears from heaven's sky.
I'll keep putting faith in the fact that heart's can change.
It's just the way I am...and too hard to explain.
