Not A Goodbye

by Amy   Apr 8, 2004

Time has come
To tell you goodbye
I pray that you're in peace now
And with God, your spirit will fly.

I wish I could have gotten
To tell you that I honestly loved you
And that last time we saw one another,
I wish that you knew.

I'm sorry doesn't seem to fit.
It doesn't seem to set things right in my heart and mind.
This is something that I don't think
Will ever truly heal with time.

Goodbye is honestly
One of the hardest things to say.
Especially when it's to one's father.
Who you'll love and miss everyday.

I deeply wish I could have gotten
To know you better as a person
I want everyone to hold on to their fathers
And learn from my tragic lesson.

My heart still doesn't want to accept this.
My soul keeps screaming “WHY?!”
This is all so hard and sudden.
I just don't want to tell you goodbye.

So, instead, father,
I will tell you I love you
I'll always remember things you taught me
And pray that it gets me through.
