Decadence

by ramesh sharma   Mar 14, 2007

The cold, dark silhouetted barren hills,
Lit only by the pale yellow moonlight
Sieving through black gloomy clouds
Seemingly mocking and taunting me.

The intoxicated, degraded fuzzy mind
Starts thinking of what might become

When the bright sun and thirst- quenching rain
Combine to paint it green and fill it with sounds
From feathered creatures and humming insects
And the air perfumed by flowers in full bloom.

What if the mind came out of stupor?
Free from intoxication, free to think,
To generate fresh ideas, free to work
And do something worthwhile in life.

But clouds need wind to remove them,
Seeds need air and water to germinate
The mind too needs a reason to revive
Hope, ambition, friends, love or hate?

What a wonderful poem. You make one stop and think. The imagery that you used to do so is excellent.

When the bright sun and thirst- quenching rain
Combine to paint it green and fill it with sounds
From feathered creatures and humming insects
And the air perfumed by flowers in full bloom.

I really loved this stanza. I can picture the greenness of the ground and the flowers , birds, and insects. Great job!
