Break Up

by Amy   Apr 8, 2004

She looks to him so sadly
As her heart and eyes fill with tears
She knows what he's about to say
She has now realized her deepest fears.

He says he'll always love her
But he has to let go
He takes her hand in his
But the blood in her veins has stopped its flow.

She stays silent to take it all in
Then wonders why it has to be this way
She can't understand why he feels
That he just cannot stay.

He hugs her tightly in his arms,
Her heart in shattered pieces upon the floor
She looks at him and knows
She loves him to her very core.

He used to smile and say
That he'd love her forever and today
Now as she recalls
She's scared those were just clever words to say.

She cries hard and can only seem to whisper into his ear, “Please…”
He hugs her tighter and says,
That she isn't losing him completely,
That he'll love her the rest of his days.

She trembles as he kisses her forehead
He tells her she'll be all right,
As he says his last goodbyes
And disappears into the night.
