Daddy's Dad

by Stephanie   Mar 15, 2007

I see daddy weeping
I heard a released sigh
I want to console him
Daddy, please don’t cry

I want to understand him
But I am unable to feel his pain
And yet I know his pain is reasonable
My daddy is not insane

I realize he is wounded
His tears are not in vain
The loss of grandpa hurt
I feel lots of pain

I have more than one grandpa
So, it is not all that bad
But wait, he was not just my grandpa
He was his dad

You cannot help but be distressed
Child and parent are inseparably close
He’s there when needed
When you cannot find an answer, only daddy knows

Now I know his pain
I know why dad is sad
It hurt to lose grandpa
But it hurt him more, because he was
daddy’s dad
