Runaway

by Wings Of Flames   Mar 16, 2007

Place the saddle on your back,
Girth up nice and tight,
Put the bit into your mouth,
Then ride into the night,

I'll never look back,
As I push a little more,
The wind takes my hair,
As my spirit starts to sore,

The tears slip from my eyes,
But dry in the breeze,
Fly over a fallen life,
And slip back in with ease,

I do not know where I am going,
But I know I won't be back,
I cannot hold another day,
Because it holds all I lack,

The stream flows rough and cold,
As I cross with dampened sweat,
I'm sobbing uncontrollably,
But I know my goal is set,

The mountain steepens every stride,
As I thunder through the trees,
I see two lights behind me,
And hope to God they see,

But I still ask for her to go,
She's here when I'm in need,
I canter on till I find a cliff,
And I falter to conceed,

But my heart clicks in,
And the end is near I know,
Another tear slips from me,
As I let my best friend go,

The two lights shine closer,
As my toes hang from the edge,
I close my eyes and hear them scream,
And I make my final pledge,

I dive into the open air,
The air rushing past,
I hear the whinnie of her,
And she knows this is the last,

I find the bottom of this pit,
And crash into the stone,
It carves up my soul,
And I know now I'm alone.
