Life Was So Simple

Life was so simple,
when boys had cooties,
the knees you skinned,
chasing them around the playground,
healed faster than the broken hearts,
you got from loving them.

Life was so simple,
when the thoughts of kissing boys,
made you want to choke,
holding hands was a symbol,
of friendship,
not relationship.

Life was so simple,
when love was only a word,
you said to family members,
lying was the worse,
thing you could do,
and pain was when you fell.

Life was so simple,
when climbing trees was cool,
and trends were who had the newest toy,
smiles were real,
never fake,
and our hearts were safe.

Life was so simple,
when you only cried because your favorite cartoon,
was canceled,
and daddy's lap was yours,
for the taking,
he always scared the monsters away.

Life was so simple,
when the world,
was an adventure,
and boys were just friends,
nothing more,
and our hearts were only our own.
