Turning Back Time

This unbearable ache is haunting me again
willing me to fall and submit to the pain.
Your voice is in my dreams again
I'm not sure how many more smiles I can feign.

I turn back time and look into your eyes once more
I look deeply to find what it is I'm looking for.
I see the love that shone so bright
I felt the raw emotion that felt so right.

I felt your arms protecting me
I knew what it was to finally feel free.
I felt your love surrounding my heart
I just never could find where it fell apart.

It's OK that you hurt me so deeply
Even though my knees are weak and my mind's not steady
I'm finally starting to heal from the burn
It just troubles me that I still feel concern.

I look into the picture of you holding her and your child
I saw the way you look at her and the way she smiled
I've seen no love truer than yours is for her
I hated the emotion that this image stirred.

I wanted to change things, to turn back time
but all I have are my silly little rhymes
this emotion inside of me only persists
Sometimes I wish it would cease to exist.

I can feel the tears gathering behind my eyes
all is said and done, we've said our goodbyes.
I only wish that things had been contrary to what I have known
But here I am... broken and alone.
