The Orphan

by I Seem to be the Heartless   Mar 17, 2007

An ' orphan ' child
Running around on the streets,
All alone.
No one to care for her,
No one to love her.
Why is she out in the cold?
Why have her parents left her?
Do they not love her?
Do they not care?
It seems they do not.
Why else would they shove her out,
Kick her to the curb,
With nothing but the clothes on her back?
Why else would they disown her?
All she wanted was a chance to speak.
But it was forbidden -
She was never allowed to speak her mind.
They never gave her the chance,
The chance to be cared for,
The chance to be loved.
She was shut out,
Never to be loved again...

This is sort of odd. She is abondoned by her family for speaking? Sounds a bit extreme. Either way, good choice of topic. More poems should be written about orphans.
