The Power of the Moon

by I Seem to be the Heartless   Mar 17, 2007

We sat side-by-side on a park bench,
Looking out at the lake.
The air was cool and crisp
As a breeze blew across my face.
It felt good to be outside,
Having the wind blowing through my hair.

You took my hand
And told me to look up at the sky.
The stars were so bright
As they shone down on the Earth.
" It's supposed to be a full moon tonight,"
You whispered in my ear.

The clouds, which had covered the moon,
Began to drift away
And I smiled at the beautiful sight.
The moon's rays
Swept over me,
Surrounding me,
Transforming me.

Your eyes grew wide with fright
As you looked at the real me.
You tried to scream,
Tried to run,
But you couldn't move -
You were frozen in fear.

I began to whimper
When I realised that you
Would never love me for who I am.
I looked up at the stars,
Who laughed at my pain,
And I growled in anger.

As I made my way to you,
You started to run.
The chase was a short one -
You were no match for me.
I tore at you with my claws,
Ripping you apart
With every slash.
I dug my teeth
Into your soft flesh,
Your blood running down my chin.

Once you were no longer moving,
You lay perfectly still,
I raised my head
And looked up at the sky.
With blood still dripping
From my fangs,
I closed my eyes
And howled
At the full moon...
