The Life of an Insomniac

by Jen   Mar 18, 2007

1 a.m.
Awoken in a daze
Lucid, dream-like, fatigued
Another fit
Of crushing insomnia

2 a.m.
Haunted by the night
Shaken, sweating, scared
Another hour
Of throbbing pain

3 a.m.
Destructed by darkness
Raging, livid, broken
Another night
In an endless black hole

4 a.m.
Seduced by the moonlight
Noise, static, everywhere
Another symphony
Of constant clamor

5 a.m.
Blinded by incandescence
Drowned, weakened
Another twilight
Wasted, but survived

And then it stops
The noise, the static
And the cacophony

And you would never believe
Just how loud
The silence can be

Unless you have lived
The life

Of an insomniac.
