Names In The Sand

by XSugarSexSuicideX   Mar 22, 2007

She went on vacation
To a white sandy beach,
And found a clean, clear space,
And with her finger and a stick,
She wrote his name in the sand.
With small shells that she
Found in the ocean,
She traced a heart
Around her love's name.
The sun shined above her,
The waves crashed around her,
But she stuck to her project,
Until she stepped back,
Admiring her work,
Smiling at the name it spelt.
In the distance,
Her parents' voices.
Quickly, she
Swept up the sand, and
Picked up the shells,
Stuffing it all into a plastic bag.
As they drove back home,
She held that little part of the beach
Close to her heart.
When she got home,
She spread the sand out on her floor.
She laid the shells over them,
And stared at them,
Smiling.
Quietly, she pulled
A small amount of sand
Into a little glass vial.
She slipped a shell into it,
And shut it tight.
She mailed it out to her love,
With only this to say:

"I went on vacation,
To relax on the beach,
But I couldn't leave from my thoughts,
You were still beyond my reach.
I wrote your name out in the sand,
And shells covered and traced it,
The water tried to sweep it away,
But before it could, I stole it.
I grabbed it all, the sand and shells,
And headed to the car,
I waited until I got home,
Then spread it out on my basement floor.
Now I give you this small token,
A bit of shells and sand,
To remind you of the hearts I drew,
And the name that I demand.
Hold on to this, tight and good,
Remember me at the beach,
Keep me in your thoughts,
And know, I'm always within reach."

She mailed it out,
Hoping he would understand,
That she loved him,
That she held him in her thoughts,
Every day,
Every night,
Every vacation.
And every time she saw the ocean,
She imagined him sailing to her,
Every time she saw the sand,
She imagined writing his name,
And professing her love,
In the sand.

*True story...Florida sand is the best for this kind of stuff, FYI*
