Aisle 7

by Jake Maynard   Mar 24, 2007

Today I witnessed the backbone of America.
Tall and Proud,
a man built of brick not stone.
With dry cracks lacing his olive-rust hands
and tan leather work boots,
scuffed to reveal
the matte grey of a steel toe.

Today I saw the backbone of America,
bending long and slow
towards a giant bag of cheerios
at walmart.
