I hope all dogs go to heaven

by beav   Mar 24, 2007

A car ran over a dog today.
in my life, i'd not seen that before.
brutal, gruesome- could not look away.
death on the road by the liquor store.

sickened, i cried. wished i had not seen
the demise of this golden-brown dog.
must have been painless, so quick and clean
like a tractor tire over a log.

parked in the lot and got out to look.
no soul remained in the still canine.
s.u.v. stopped, the life that it took.
the car left, i got back into mine.

one mile from my house, i cried all the way.
that eyeful repeating, i did see.
a gray cloud loomed the rest of my day,
but the life-taking guilted not me.

Hey - I am so srry you saw that. I feel even sorrier for the poor dog. I hope that the person who hit him/her attempted to look at the collar to see if there was an owner. I witnessed this once with a kitten, and the ahole just drove off. I stopped and picked up the kitten. It was crushed. I took it to an animal hospital where it was euthanized. The vet said it was a good thing too, because it would have come out of shock in a few hours and suffered an excruciating death. You have a kind soul girl - big hug.

That was an amazing poem, i really appreciate that you took the time to write about a topic like that. but ive never expeirienced something like that, so the only constructive critisism i can give is to just explain more about how you felt or what it was like, i think. but it was great, keep writing.
